Traveling With Kids

Have you ever been traveling with kids? I get tense just thinking about it. All the things you have to bring.  A few years ago my wife and I took the kids to Hawaii. I remember all the planning we had to do. They were little so we even had to bring the car seats.

There was so much anxiety about the trip. I hate to fly, like a lot. So the anxiety was definitely at a defcon 5 for me.

Jamie sat down a few days before the flight and we began to make a checklist; diaper, wipes, butt paste for the babies, phone chargers, phones, etc. You get the idea. Anything and everything we thought we would need got put on that list.

We always pack the best stuff: Bug catchers, nets, multiple fairy and mermaid dresses, unicorn horn, (because you never know which type of mythical creature you will encounter and you want to make sure you blend in ) and that’s just my list. Can you imagine what’s on my daughters list!! 😉

Needless to say checklists give us peace of mind. There’s just something really satisfying and reassuring about checking those boxes. Even after you have everything it's nice to go back over it just to be sure.
When I’m in the midsts of a trial I often hit up my biblical checklist. It is a list that I have compiled of verses that help me build my faith. When the chips are down or the tide is high I can always call on this list.

Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that he exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

There’s a call and response that happens when I hit these verses in my head:

  1. I confess that Jesus is Lord and out loud I renounce any and all willing and unwilling bonds I have made with sinful things.
  2. I ask God to have mercy because I’m a wretched piece of work.
  3. I say out loud that he is faithful even when I’m faithless!

Make a spiritual check list for yourself. Remind yourself of how faithful God is and it will benefit you. This list will help you wage war against the devil in your darkest moments. Maranatha.
